Legacy applications are classified as those which will not install and run natively on the currently supported Windows operating system. These applications are often critical line of business (LOB) applications which cannot be upgraded (or are prohibitively expensive to upgrade) and cannot be replaced.
APaaS have a number of proven solutions to enable legacy applications to run securely on the latest Windows 64-bit platforms extending the life of critical LOB applications.
Legacy applications present many different problems to be resolved, as such, solutions are bespoke to the Client and the application. Legacy application solutions are delivered via Professional Services engagements and include:
Application Discovery: Document requirements, prereqs, external dependencies and interfaces to enable the successful transition of the application.
Application Remediation: Investigate application components and behaviour to first resolve application issues to enable installation and operation on native Windows 64-bit supported platform.
If Windows 32-bit is an option for the Customer this will be investigated as a second option. If the application cannot be remediated to work on any supported Windows platform, the most suitable third-party solution (containerisation, virtualisation, etc) will be recommended to compliment the Customers chosen End User Device.
If a third-party solution is required, the following work is undertaken.
Investigate how the application works on the physical device (file access, external connections, hardware, user interaction etc.)
Build the legacy solution with the required applications pre-configured.
Package the legacy solution ready for delivery via the Customers deployment toolset
Support legacy solution through testing and deployment.
